Mr. Tsukahara
This morning I heard the first cicadas of the year. It's summer.
Since the beginning of June, my wife's father has been recuperating at home after developing pneumonia.
It was sudden, but since we had a two-family house designed, we were able to welcome my father in right away. It
's been over a month since my father came here, and I think the reason why our family of four and my father are able to live with less stress is because the house provides privacy for my father, my wife and I, and our children.
Even so, our beer consumption has increased. However, his stay at our home is only for a limited time, about one or two months. I can't even begin to imagine the hardships faced by people who provide care and support for extended periods.
My father's room has a very large window, and even when he's lying in bed, the street trees, the sky, and the light from outside are pleasant and soothing to him.
Living with our parents this time wasn't all bad; it made my wife and I think about our own old age and allowed us to reflect on ourselves by finding similarities between ourselves and our parents.
Well, back in May, before my father came to stay for treatment, a friend came to visit, and we spontaneously enjoyed a barbecue on our rooftop, which we're
very proud of. When the rooftop was designed, we were surprised and excited when the architect suggested, "Let's build a concrete table so we can enjoy barbecues on the rooftop," knowing how much our family loves them. Since we
already have a table, we can easily enjoy barbecues. When I explained to my friend that the legs of the table were actually the exhaust vents for the range hood in the kitchen downstairs (you wouldn't know that just by looking at it), he was impressed by the idea.
Everyone in the family loves this concrete table, and last summer, we usually enjoyed dinner here on weekends, either barbecuing or bringing our own plates. Now is the perfect season for barbecues. I hope my father recovers completely soon so we can enjoy meals here
again. Until next time,

Thank you for your email. I'm very happy to hear about your recent activities. I remember
when we were thinking about moving the kitchen range hood up to the roof, we all said, "Let's turn it into a barbecue party table."
It brings back so many memories of our meetings, and I feel very nostalgic.
